Tim Lancaster's View Of The Game

A very young Yeovil Town side fell to a heavy defeat at Hellenic League Premier Division club Wootton Bassett Town in a combative fixture that saw the Yeovil youngsters produce some excellent passing football against their Wiltshire hosts.

Wootton Bassett opened up an early two goal lead before towering defender SAM CROFT headed home from a corner ten minutes before the interval to score Yeovil's goal. Moments later however the home club netted their third.

The second period saw Yeovil produce a spell of excellent football, however a much older and physically stronger Wootton Bassett side scored two further goals to give them victory. The home players, backed by a voiciferous crowd were certainly not treating the game as a friendly and did not hold back in some over the top challenges on their young opponents that eventually led to Bassett being reduced to ten men after a kicking incident.

The game saw some encouraging moves from 'The Glovers' that would have pleased boss Stuart Housley as he prepares his squad for the seasons opener against Swansea City on August 16th.
