Facilities For Disabled People At Huish Park

Blue Badge holders are permitted to park against the back of the Bartlett Stand and there are more parking spaces reserved for disabled people at the back of the away end terrace. Access to the ground is generally flat from the reserved spaces.

Wheelchair users are accomodated in 4 bays set into the Bartlett Stand, all bays having room for around 5 wheelchairs and being at ground level. There is no provision for companions or assistants as such, in practise such people tend to sit on the concrete surround of the bays. Access to both snack-bars in the Bartlett Stand is level and flat and there is a disabled toilet beside the snack-bar nearest to the home end terrace.

The club shop is situated underneath the Main Stand opposite the Bartlett Stand and is accessible via a small step. Beware of the camber of the ground outside the Main Stand, it tends to vary a bit. The club's bars and conference facilities are all situated up several flights of stairs on the first floor of the Main Stand and are therefore completely inaccessible to most disabled people. Unfortunately for the thirsty wheelchair user the nearest pubs to the ground, The Arrow and The Bell, are both around a quarter-of a mile from Huish Park. Happily they are both wheelchair-friendly.

UPDATE - 2003-04 Season
The club have erected a temporary Marquee bar on the far side of the all-weather pitch at Huish Park, opposite the corner of the Main and Westland Stands. The Marquee is wheelchair accessible, though to home fans only - away supporters are not catered for.

Getting Better?

The club have recognised in the Directors Report 2002 that whilst the general facilities for disabled people are adequate as far as access to the ground and pitchside are concerned; the lack of access to the club bars and conference facilities as well as the lack of a raised viewing area for wheelchair users is, to quote the report, "an embarrassment" to the club.

In consultation with disabled supporters plans have been put in place to install a lift to the first floor of the Main Stand and to install a viewing platform at the back of the Main Stand, accessible through the social club bar and via the lift. As always finance, or the lack of it, dictates when these amenities will eventually be installed, though government legislation should ensure that the latest this will be is October 2004.

Disabled people are urged to contact the club to enquire when the provision of a lift and raised viewing facilities will be installed at Huish Park. Write to: John Fry (chairman), Yeovil Town Football Club, Huish Park, Lufton Way, Yeovil, Somerset, BA22 8YF .
