Yeovil Town Against Racism

A Working Group has been formed to work with Yeovil Town Football Club. The group members include representatives from Somerset Racial Equality Council, the National Kick Racism Out of Football Campaign, Somerset Football Association, South Somerset District Council, the Youth Service, Avon & Somerset Constabulary and Yeovil Town Football Club and their Supporters Groups. The group is open to new members and community groups.

The Working Group are currently working on a "Mission Statement" and ways to link with education, young people's community groups and other intiatives such as "Youth Watch" which is curently being developed by the police.

There is now a "Yeovil Town Against Racism" banner displayed at Huish Park, provided by the Kick It Out! Campaign and the club announce a statement against racist behaviour and language before each game. This is in keeping with the club's and the working group's commitment to eliminating racism from the terraces and local communities.

The next stages in the development of this group will be to consult and engage with all our local communities, to actively participate in the National Kick It Out! Campaign's Week of Action in October and to link this work to Black History Month, which is to be celebrated in Somerset for the first time this year.
