It may not have been Yeovil Town, but it was certainly a match our supporters had their
eyes on when Yeovil were drawn at home to play the winners of this tie in the FA Cup 4th
Qualifying Round. As a result, Oxfordshire exiles Paul and Colin Chesterman made their
way to Witney's ground to see our would-be opponents battle it out. This is how Paul
Chesterman saw the game ......
Two recent adversaries of Yeovil Town FC met in today's FA cup 3rd
qualifying round at Witney, and as I wandered round the ground both sets of
supporters were looking forward to the prospect of visiting Huish Park again.
I saw neither of the previous encounters but did watch Hinckley United,
the Saturday before we played them in the Trophy last season, and only six
of that side played today.

A wet and windy afternoon in Witney saw the home side have slightly the
better of the first twenty five minutes, with Witney forcing two corners on
ten minutes, but gaining nothing from them.
Both sides were playing in a 3-5-2 formation with the ball being in the air
most of the time. The first booking of the day saw Hinckley No 2 Tommy Gallagher get the
yellow card for a foul on Witney's Geoff Neville.
The deadlock was broken on 26 minutes when Hinckley No 9 Paul Hunter
got the better of left back Chris Organ to supply the cross to No 10 Gary
Ricketts who headed home to put the Leicestershire side one up.
Hinckley were unable to convert their late pressure on Witney, with a
great run by Ricketts forcing the Witney keeper to dive at his feet on the
edge of the box being the only other chance before half-time.
Half-time WITNEY 0 - 1 HINCKLEY
Second half started well for Witney, on 50 minutes a free kick on the
edge of the visitors box just failed to go in on the far post.
On 51 minutes a short range shot by Witney No.10 Justin Miller hit the
back of the net, to the goalkeepers left to draw the sides level.
An immediate substitution was made by Witney, bringing on George
Redknapp for Geoff Neville, Redknapp made an immediate impact down the right
flank which ultimately later led to Witney's winner, Yeovil will need to
close him down.
On 67 minutes, Witney No 6 Abercrombie took a long throw-in towards
the Hinckley goal which could as easily been headed in as it was knocked
away. A substitution from each side took place and then an event that probably turned
the game, Hinckley no 6 John Allcock, who played last year at Huish Park
was sent off for a second bookable offence.
Witney failed to convert the resulting free kick , but from then on
they pressed home the one man advantage although Hinckley, from now playing
with ten men behind the ball made the break to force two corners.
On 86 minutes though some clever play between Jason Caffel, the
sponsors Man of the match and Redknapp, my MOTM, led to the ball falling to Carl
Henry (14 goals in 12 games) who buried the ball to clinch a trip to Somerset for
the Oxfordshire side.
Loads of 'Fergie' time played, but it stayed 2-1 to Witney.
