Team Selection :
Yeovil were forced into two changes for the game with Matt Hayfield pulling
out as expected with a hamstring injury whilst Terry Skiverton also withdrew
on the morning of the match with an ankle injury. Ben Smith and Kevan Brown
were the lucky replacements.

First Half :
Yeovil as usual began slowly as they tried to slow the home side down, and
played deep as Woking began to carve out chances. Woking's attacking
superiority was defined as early as the 12th minute as Scott Steele's shot was
superbly blocked by Tony Pennock in the Yeovil goal close to his right hand
post.
On 25 minutes Yeovil were awarded a free kick by the over-fussy Wendy Toms
but Ben Smith's shot was blazed over the bar. But this was one of few Yeovil
chances and Woking were unlucky not to take the lead when a double header was
briliantly diverted by Tony Pennock who had to change direction sharply
following the second knock-on, leaving the already celebrating Woking fans
bitterly disappointed.
A game with Wendy Toms refereeing could never survive long without an
irrational spate of bookings though. First Kevan Brown was harshly booked for
a foul on Scott Steele, next to come was Darran Hay who seemed to be booked
for diving although it could have been dissent, and finally Scott Steele
landed in the book for a marginal foul on Jamie Pitman. All very predictable
stuff from our Wendy.
On 41 minutes though, with few chances for either side, Woking took the
lead. A cross from the right wing produced a vain attempt from Tony Pennock to
catch the ball in no-mans land and as the goalkeeper lay on the floor Darran
HAY struck the ball home.
As injury time approached Yeovil nearly had a chance gifted to them from
Michael Danzey as he powered the ball at Flahaven in the Woking goal but the
linesman had ruled offside.

Second Half :
At half time Phil Gridlett appeared in place of Pete Smith, and a short while
latter Darran Hay who had been injured and had also committed a bad foul was
taken off in favour of Nassim Akrour. It was difficult to see if Hay had been
substituted to avoid a sending off or to avoid further injury.
With pretty much the first action of the second half Woking got themselves
a 2-0 lead. A left wing cross seemed to be completely misdirected until
Michael Danzey flicked the ball back across the box and Steve WEST
produced an excellent right foot shot from 15 yards with Pennock not standing
a chance but berating his defenders for the poor marking.
Yeovil took off Murray Fishlock who had landed in pain on his back underneath
the Kingfield Road End, and this allowed them to try and salvage things by switching to
a 4-3-3 formation with Jason Eaton coming on. Jamie Pitman switched from right back to
left back, whilst Kevan Brown covered the right back spot. But it was all to little avail.
Woking could have had three when Pennock had to block from first Grant
Payne and then Nassim Akrour but the game then seemed to fizzle out into
nothingness. Foster got booked for a late tackle whilst Jamie Pitman landed
his name in there for dissent. Yeovil ended the game with substitutions for
Norton and Brown but finished as they had started with poor passing and a lack
of invention.

Web Site Verdict :
Poor passing and poor marking heavily contributed to a bad Yeovil performance
against an average Woking side. There was a near total lack of invention from
both sides and Woking only deserved their win on the basis that they found the
target and Yeovil didn't. Yeovil need to find more consistency if they are
not to lose touch with a seemingly unstoppable Stevenage.

Colin's Verdict :
I think what was disappointing to me was that we didn't look like scoring even if we had
stayed out there all day. But to be fair, between the two 18 yard boxes in open play,
it looked like a 0-0 to me. I said they would be dangerous on set plays and that is
exactly what happened. They reacted well for the first goal, but we didn't defend it that
well, and with the second goal, a player had been told to match up with another player, he
stood off him, and Westy finished well, but any player is going to finish well if you
stand off him. At the end of the day, we could have come out of that with a 0-0, which I
would have been content with as such, but not really from the point of view that we
didn't put together any really good scoring moves. There was no doubt about it though,
Pennock had more to do than Flahaven but I had been still feeling that it was going to end
up as a 0-0.
