Weymouth 0 Yeovil Town 1

Scorer : Jason Eaton 1-0 (30 mins)

Attendance : circa 700-800

A highly impressive defensive performance from Yeovil tonight at the Wessex Stadium ensured a far more comfortable victory than the scoreline suggested. Weymouth enjoyed a reasonable slice of the possession, but Yeovil soaked up the Weymouth pressure with a great deal of ease and made a reasonable number of chances at the other end.

A large Yeovil following of over 150 was there to witness the match, with fans even segregated for the game (!), and they saw Yeovil take the lead when Dean Chandler delivered a pin-point cross from the left allowing Jason Eaton to deliver a downward header into the Weymouth goal after 30 minutes.

At half time Brown, Piper and Hayfield all replaced Stott, Smith and Cousins, with Jamie Pitman moving into midfield to plug the gap left by the extra midfielder going off. Paul Steele had ten minutes right at the end as he replaced Terry Skiverton, whilst the tail end of the game saw numerous secondary changes with substituted players returning to the field.

Yeovil were very impressive playing the ball out of their own defence and Murray Fishlock will have been a relieved man to get through a full 90 minutes without injury, given his problems with his back since returning from the summer break. Tony Pennock had very little to do in his goal thanks to the control and confidence his back men were showing.

During the second half there were further chances for Patmore who headed over the bar, and Eaton who managed a couple more shots of his own, but Yeovil couldn't add to their lead.

The main bonus of tonights game is that the Yeovil defence is now starting to take shape, and that the Patmore & Eaton combination is starting to gel. Adrian Foster was not part of the squad, presumably still injured from his knock on Saturday, and this allowed Patmore and Eaton a full 90 minutes to get used to each other. Steve Thompson and David Norton continue to be unavailable.

The starting line-up was:

1. Tony Pennock
2. Jamie Pitman
3. Murray Fishlock
4. Dean Chandler
5. Terry Skiverton
6. Rob Cousins
7. Ben Smith
8. Steve Stott
9. Warren Patmore
10.Phil Simpson
11.Jason Eaton

Subs (all used): Kevan Brown, Dave Piper, Matt Hayfield, Paul Steele
