Name: Lee Collins
Position: Central Defender
Date of Birth: 28 September 1988
Place of Birth: Telford
Born in Telford on September 28th 1988, he is a former Wolverhampton Wanderers Academy graduate, who didn't get as far as their first team, but whilst he was a professional at Molineux he made 20 appearances during the 2007-08 season as part of a Hereford United loan spell whilst they were a League Two team.
His main career in football came via four seasons with Port Vale where he made 163 appearances, scoring four times whilst the Valiants were also in League Two. He picked up Chairman's Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year awards during the 2009-10 season there. That led to Barnsley taking him on in March 2012, initially on loan, but with a £50,000 permanent transfer agreed. There he wasn't a great success, with the Tykes playing in the Championship, but he did clock up seven appearances for them during his time.
In February 2013, he decided to move on and sign for Northampton Town, where he spent just over three seasons, with the initial couple of months in League Two before the Cobblers' relegation. There he made 86 appearances, scoring one goal. He then signed for Mansfield Town in June 2015, completing two seasons with them and once again a regular in their side making 82 appearances.
Collins then joined Forest Green as one of their earliest signings upon entering the Football League. He made 64 appearances, scoring three goals with his one goal coming during the 2018-19 season against Yeovil Town. However, during that season he made just 16 appearances, in part due to a long term injury, perhaps explaining why Forest Green allowed him to move on.
He is able to play across the entire defence, but is generally recognised as a central defender. Northampton Town also saw him as a left-back. Manager Darren Sarll said at the time of his arrival:
"Lee is a winner and his experience and leadership will make him a big part of this squad. He's yet another player who arrives having been part of a team that reached the play-offs last season and has all of the attributes we're going to need to be a success in this division."
Lee was signed up on June 26th 2019, penning a two year contract with the club, that will keep him at Huish Park until the summer of 2021.
