Name: Ryan Hedges
Position: Left Wing
Date of Birth: 8 July 1995
Place of Birth: Northampton
Ryan was born on July 8th 1995 and was brought up in Flintshire in North Wales, attending the Hawarden High School that also took in former England striker Michael Owen and ex-Wales manager Gary Speed. He was on the books of Flint Town until the summer of 2013, until his performances for the Welsh Schools Under-18s team saw him spotted and taken into Swansea's Under-21s side, being given a one year contract upon his arrival. He generally plays as a left-winger although can also feature as a supporting striker.
He has yet to be selected for Swansea's first team, with his experience gained at League One and League Two level. He spent the second half of the 2014-15 season on loan with Leyton Orient, and was one of their goalscorers in Orient's rather destructive 3-0 victory over the Glovers in March 2015, ultimately scoring twice in 17 appearances. The 2015-16 season saw him gain experience with Stevenage, with six appearances during February and March 2016.
Swansea thought well enough of his performances to give him a three year contract last year, which keeps him at the Liberty Stadium until the summer of 2018. He is a Welsh international at both Under-19 and Under-21 level, on top of his Schools Under-18 appearances where he captained their side. So far has nine caps to his name at the Under-21 level.
Manager Darren Way has said of the player's arrival at the club in July:
"I am delighted to welcome Ryan, and feel very lucky to get him. There was plenty of interest from other clubs, so I must thank the staff at Swansea and his agent. Ryan has a superb left foot and is a quick and intelligent player."
Ryan was originally due to stay with the Glovers for the length of the 2016-17 season. However, on January 31st 2017, he left Swansea City permanently, signing a two and a half year permanent deal with Championship side Barnsley, meaning that his time in Somerset was curtailed, with his last match for the club coming on Boxing Day 2016 - an ankle injury sustained in that game meant that was to be the last occasion he turned out for the club.
