Name: Reuben Reid
Date of Birth: 26 July 1988
Place of Birth: Bristol
Reuben is a front line striker, who is was very familiar with the West Country even before he joined Yeovil Town on June 2nd 2012. He was born in Bristol and started his career with Plymouth Argyle, and thus became a familiar name in the local press and coming up against the Glovers on a couple of occasions in Reserve Team and friendly matches. He stands at six foot tall and during his younger days was a keen cricketer, turning out for Gloucestershire Second XI, up until the point that Argyle offered him a professional deal in February 2004.
During his time at Home Park, he spent time out on loan with Kidderminster Harriers, Rochdale, Torquay United, Wycombe Wanderers and Brentford, without really establishing himself in the Pilgrims first team. In 2008 moved on to Rotherham United, having made just one league start for the Pilgrims out of a total of 12 appearances in all competitions.
His time with the Millers saw his career take off, notching up 19 goals across the 2008-09 season, and that was good enough to catch the eye of West Bromwich Albion, who signed him for an undisclosed fee during the summer of 2009. He made just seven appearances for the Baggies, from the substitutes bench or in cup competitions, although gained further first team experience through lengthy loan spells with Peterborough United and Walsall during that time.
He left the Hawthorns after 18 months on their books, signing for Oldham Athletic on January 28th 2011, initially until the end of the season. However, he extended his stay at Boundary Park by signing a year's extension on reduced terms for the 2011-12 season. He was released by the Latics at the end of the season, having missed five months of the season with a torn thigh muscle, putting him out between October and March. Overall he made 22 appearances during the 2011-12 season, scoring six goals. His final return for the Latics was eight goals in 41 appearances across the 18 months he spent there.
Reuben's family already know Yeovil Town's set up well as he is the third member of the Reid family to don a green and white shirt. Elder brother Jake Reid played for both the Reserves and Youth Team before leaving for a career that has taken him through many of the region's local sides including Team Bath, Salisbury City, Weymouth, Bath City and Newport County. Meanwhile, his younger brother Isaac Reid was a striker for Yeovil Town Under-18s, with the Reid family attending some of the club's Youth Team matches during that period.
His contract will run for two years from July 1st 2012, and Reuben is one of Oldham Athletic players to arrive at the club, with team-mate Keanu Marsh-Brown also joining after being released by the Latics.
