Match Report:

Yeovil Town were comfortably beaten by League Two leaders Doncaster Rovers this afternoon, as they stretched their run of poor form to eight league matches without a win. The gap between the two sides was made clear by two quickfire first half goals, as Matthieu Baudry finished from close range from a free kick, whilst John Marquis netted after the Glovers were guilty of giving away the ball inside their own half. Tom Eaves saw Yeovil's best chance of the 90 minutes come off the goal post during the second half with his header inches away, but John Marquis got his second in the closing stages to send his team seven points clear at the top, whilst Yeovil's 16th place position leaves them 10 points away from the top seven slots.

The Glovers went into the match making one change, and it was an enforced one. FA regulations meant that the medics would not allow Ryan Dickson - knocked unconscious at Bloomfield Road - to play in today's match and so he sat out the game with a broken nose, with Alex Lacey replacing him, meaning that Nathan Smith played in the full-back slot. In the opposition line-up, Andy Williams started, whilst Craig Alcock was on the bench as former Glovers.

Throughout the match, Doncaster had the upper hand, even if a Matt Dolan shot from distance opened things up. The away side began to take control as they used an expansive game that stretched the pitch well, with their opening effort almost producing a fluke, as a Tommy Rowe shot deflected off Darren Ward, but fortunately Artur Krysiak smothered it. A series of corners and free kicks made it hard for Yeovil to defend, whilst former Glover Andy Williams attempted to chip a looping shot over Krysiak, but the Pole claimed the ball confidently.

Warning signs came midway through the half when Andy Williams threaded a superb ball through to James Coppinger, who struck a 25 yarder that came off the post and back out as Yeovil were caught on the counterattack - both Yeovil's full-backs had a difficult afternoon, but Liam Shephard particularly struggled to deal with Tommy Rowe at times. Half an hour in, Doncaster got the lead after Matt Butcher fouled John Marquis, getting booked for the infringement. Conor Grant's free kick caught the defence sleeping and Mathieu Baudry had the chance to convert all too comfortably from close range. 0-1 down.

Five minutes later, Matt Butcher made a second error in the game, after he gave away the ball inside his own half. James Coppinger pounced and ran through, crossing the ball for John Marquis who doubled Doncaster's lead at 0-2 - a scoreline that they held far too comfortably until half time, with Yeovil's front line rarely seeing the ball, let alone being able to get a shot off - Yeovil's few efforts came from distance, and were easily wide.

Matt Butcher's errors and his booking no doubt contributed to him being replaced at half time, as Ben Whitfield replaced him, giving the unusual sight of Kevin Dawson being asked to play the holding role. Up front, the Glovers had occasionally swapped between a 4-3-3 and a 4-3-1-2, but adopted the former in the second period, with Tom Eaves on the right and Francois Zoko on the left. They looked a little brighter early on, but without creating anything of note.

Instead it was Doncaster who looked more clinical, with Artur Krysiak twice having to deny Andy Williams. The first was a superb tip around for a corner, as Williams produced an angled shot that threatened to add to his three goals he'd got in August at the Keepmoat, with the second being a little more of a regulation save.

At the other end, Shayon Harrison, who had been ill during the week, replaced a fairly anonymous Omar Sowunmi, and then came Yeovil's one key chance during the 90 minutes. A Kevin Dawson cross into the box was met by a downward header by Tom Eaves, but the ball came off the foot of the post and back out - that was to be the one moment they beat Donny keeper Ian Lawlor or indeed worried him in any way, but as is the case in recent matches, the woodwork proved a frustration.

Doncaster always looked like they were holding back a little bit. They should have been further ahead when Andy Williams put through James Coppinger - he should have netted when clean through on goal, but wastefully put the shot wide. Subtstitute Harry Middleton also fired wide, but in the closing stages, Doncaster got the third goal that finished off the game with a great solo goal from John Marquis. The two Yeovil centre-backs backed off far too much allowing Donny's top scorer to weave past them and fire home. 0-3 and game firmly over.

Yeovil never really got close bar that Eaves effort. A Ben Whitfield free kick that was probably meant to be a cross almost gave Lawlor some concerns but the keeper palmed the ball away. Francois Zoko shot wide late on, but there was no doubt that there was a gap between the two sides. Yeovil remain in 16th place, but the gap between them and the play-off places grows now to 10 points, and more pertinently the gap between them and the bottom two is now down to seven. With Plymouth Argyle arriving on Tuesday, for the rearranged fixture that was postponed earlier this mpnth due to Argyle's FA Cup exploits, things are not going to get much easier in the immediate future.
