With only a couple of days between matches, and a tiny squad to go with it, team selection for tomorrow's match against Charlton Athletic has taken a slight blow. Midfielder Marc Bircham (hamstring) and defender Rob Fitzgerald (training ground knock) are ruled out of tomorrow's match, leaving the Glovers with just 15 available professionals to select from.
Speaking to the Western Gazette, assistant boss Steve Thompson has given the measure of impact even losing just two players will have on Yeovil's side:
"We were already short on numbers but with those two also missing it means we are definitely short on numbers for tomorrow and down to the bare bones. A new rule for this season is being able to name seven subs in the Carling Cup but we will do well if we can. You can only use three substitutes anyway but it would be nice to be able to name seven."
Goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has not been given permission to play by his parent club Portsmouth meaning that he will not be involved at The Valley. Thankfully defender Jordan Street looks likely to travel as the cast on his wrist is due to be removed tomorrow:
"He should be fit to play but he has got to have the cast, which he has been wearing for the last four weeks, taken off his arm tomorrow. But we are hoping he will get the okay to be on the bench."
If Yeovil are only able to take 15 of their first team squad to London, then expect the likes of Lloyd Irish, Owen Irish and Ren Turnock to be considered as the Glovers attempt to fill their bench.
