8 August 2008 : Russell Plays A Game Of Patience
Yeovil Town manager Russell Slade has admitted he is finding it tough to bring in additional bodies before the League One season starts tomorrow. The Glovers go into the 2008-09 season carrying an 18 man squad, although it is well known that Slade is hoping to bring in new signings before the transfer deadline on August 31st.

For this weekend though, it appears that he will have to make do with what he's currently got, unless there are any major breakthroughs, with Slade admitting that being patient was the order of the day this summer:

"We're still looking to strengthen up if we possibly can but things are very tight. We'll have to wait and see, but it's getting very late in the day before Saturday. We've got our two goalkeepers but there was probably a little bit more work I would like to have achieved to be honest, before the end of the week but that doesn't always happen and sometimes you have to be patient. I think that's been my motto all pre-season really."

Slade did not confirm or deny any of the current names out on the rumourmill. However, it can probably be safely assumed that Barnsley's Sam Togwell is one of those targets but that is held up on an unnamed player exiting Huish Park (see yesterday's news).

Less certain are the names of Middlesborough defender Rhys Williams and West Bromwich Albion striker Sherjill MacDonald, who have been linked with the Glovers through the local press, albeit without firm confirmation from any club employee or from their parent clubs. Both would be loan deals, rather than the permanent move that Togwell would be. Williams captained a Middlesborough XI side that won 5-0 against Darlington on Wednesday night, playing a full 90 minutes and being named as their official site's Man of the Match - manager Gareth Southgate implied that Williams could be in his thoughts for a place on the bench at the Riverside this coming season. Meanwhile MacDonald has featured in all of West Brom's major pre-season games and has been given the No.15 shirt for the coming season. Thus if there is any fire to add to the smoke, certainly the Glovers are starting off by aiming high.
