24 July 2007 : Glovers Get Narrow Worcester Win
Yeovil Town grabbed their first pre-season win tonight at St Georges Lane when they beat Conference North side Worcester City. The winning goal came from one of a number of trialists on show at the game, with Leon Sturridge, younger brother of former Derby County striker Dean, netting a minute after being introduced as a 61st minute substitute.

There were eight trialists on show tonight, mainly from Home Counties non-league sides. Whilst Carshalton Athletic winger Mark Marshall is already known to Yeovil fans, the remaining seven were all new faces.

Goalscorer Sturridge has played for Leek Town and Winsford United and also has a nephew Daniel on the books of Manchester City.

Greg Stones is a midfielder, playing for Welsh Premier League side TNS, who had been expected to join Crewe Alexandra this summer. Greg has previously been on the books of Rhyl.

Lindon Meikle is a 19 year old striker who plays for Eastwood Town, who Glovers boss Russell Slade used to play for. Lindon scored 18 goals for the Badgers (what a wonderful nickname - Ed) and their official site states he is due two trial outings.

Hardy Pinto-Moreiro is a forward who has been on the books of Wingate and Finchley as well as Kingsbury London Tigers (formerly known as Kingsbury Town).

Ivan Forbes is another attacking player who has been on the books of Kingsbury London Tigers.

Fawzi Saadi was originally on the books of AFC Bournemouth, and is an Algerian who has played for Bournemouth Poppies and Poole Town. He is a midfielder and was born on 12th Jan 1985.

The one player we haven't been able to track down is Cabrera Herve, who came on as a substitute tonight. The teamsheet contained a number of spelling mistakes, and so this may not be his exact name.

The winning goal for Sturridge came when Hardy Pinto got in some good work to set up Sturridge and to leave him with a tap-in. Sight of the evening was Yeovil Town assistant manager Steve Thompson donning his boots at the age of 44, as he commences his 10th season with the club.

Yeovil Town: Darren Behcet, Gary Bowles, Ishmael Welsh, Greg Stones, Curtis Ujah, Terrell Forbes, Mark Marshall, Stephen Maher, Hardy Pinto, Lindon Meikle, Ivan Forbes.

Cabrera Herve (66 mins for Lindon Meikle),
Leon Sturridge (61 mins for Mark Marshall),
