Ah yes, another disadvantage of travelling North. The further oop one goes the more likely to get one of our least favourite referees: Eddie Ilderton (Tyne & Wear).
The first occasion we had him was at Moss Rose in 2003 and it didn't take long to spot he was one of the poorest officials on the circuit. Unfortunately Yeovil Town were even poorer that day.
His performance at York Street, Bank Holiday Monday 2004, won't be forgotten in a hurry by the 400 Glovers fans there: shambolic is too kind a word. A Brian Rix farce - all that was missing was the dropped trousers - would be closer.
Back at Moss Rose in 2005 and it was Ilderton again, though we seem to recall he was thankfully anonymous that day.
To date this season he has awarded 72 yellows and 6 reds in the 22 matches he has taken charge of, but naturally managed to get through the infamous Barrow v Bristol Rovers F.A. Cup tie that subsequently saw a four month prison sentence for James Cotterill - and a whole series of other industrial fouls from the Cumbrians - without reaching for his cards once.
The assistant referees supporting the comedy act will be Mo Matadar (Lancashire) and Paul Simpson (County Durham). Neil Yates (Lancashire) has been appoined as fourth official.
