Steve Thompson admitted after Saturday's game that his final day opponents Colchester United's promotion to the Coca Cola Championship was a "marvellous achievement" as the Essex side gained the point that they needed to guarantee one of the automatic spots. The U's are currently defying gravity even at League One level yet finished second in the division to secure promotion to the English second tier for the first time in the club's history.
Steve explained: "I'd like to give my congratulations to (manager) Phil Parkinson and everyone at Colchester. When we went to play them in October or November (at Layer Road) they were just below mid-table. So they have had a great run. Colchester are not the biggest club financially or crowd-wise so it is a marvellous achievement by Phil and the people behind Colchester along with their players."
