The Football League have published key dates for the 2019-20 season. Covering everything from the Fixture Release Day through to the start and finals for key competitions, the outline dates are usually expanded on throughout the summer as the season takes shape.
Clearly, Yeovil Town's interest in the list below will depend heavily upon the next four fixtures. But taking the optimist's viewpoint, the 2019-20 fixtures will be released on Thursday 20th June 2019, at 9.00p.m. outlining all 46 League matches, along with the gaps left for key competitions, such as the FA Cup. The actual season has a very early start, with Saturday 3rd August the main date for most clubs, although the expectation is that Sky Sports will probably take a game for live transmission on the evening before, from the Championship division.
The key dates known so far, are as follows:
EFL Fixture Release Date – Thursday 20th June 2019, 9.00a.m.
EFL Season Starts – Saturday 3rd August 2019
League Cup First Round – w/c August 12th 2019
League Cup Final – Sunday March 1st 2020
EFL Trophy First Round/Group – w/c September 2nd 2019
EFL Trophy Final – Sunday 5th April 2020
League Two Play-Off Final – Saturday 16th May 2020
League One Play-Off Final – Sunday 24th May 2020
Championship Play-Off Final – Monday 25th May 2020
The League haven't disclosed the date for the final weekend of fixtures. However, given that the League Two Play-Off Final takes place a week earlier than the other two Play-Off Finals, this would tend to point to a staggered finish. The reason for the blank Saturday on 23rd May isn't made clear, but is likely to be the FA Cup Final date, given that the Premier League season concludes on the previous weekend, whilst the Champions League Final is set for 30th May.
