Yeovil Town's new-look Under 18s side got off to a strong start with a 6-3 win over Westland Sports in a friendly held at Bunford Lane on Monday. Goals came from a Ben Wood header and a strong shot from Richard Cullingford. Two more came from Danny Thompson - son of Steve - whilst the final two strikes came from Matt Concliffe and Phil Ormerod. The majority of the squad have been drafted in for the start of the 2005-06 season as new arrivals as the majority of the side that proved so successful in the past two seasons are now over-age for the competition.
Manager Stuart Housley said of the evening: "It was a good first run-out for the new Youth Team. We've got lots of new faces playing. It was a very good workout against an experimental Westlands team. We've got Portland on Friday (tomorrow) but then we face Westlands again on Monday where we are expecting to face a stronger team."
Stuart said of the new-look squad and his plans for the new season: "In this league I can play four over-age players. So maybe the likes of Danny Barker, Richard Cullingford or Jamie Underwood could be three of them."
