23 May 2012 : Liddle Given Glovers Link
Yeovil Town are a number of clubs being linked with a move for former Hartlepool United midfielder Gary Liddle. After six years, 284 appearances and 21 goals, the 25 year old has turned down a deal at Victoria Park and so will leave as a free agent. He is a versatile player who in wearing the No.4 shirt for Pools has occupied either a defensive midfield position or one on the back four.

The Hartlepool Mail name Championship side Bristol City, plus League One clubs Coventry City, Notts County and Carlisle United as apparently interested in the player, along with the Glovers. The paper names the higher league side as front runners for his signature, presumably on the basis of their position in the pecking order, although they don't reveal where they've got the list of interested clubs.

Liddle is a former Middlesbrough trainee, who left in 2006, after rising through their Academy system. He won the 2003–04 FA Youth Cup whilst on their books, but never made it as far as their first team. Born in the town, he has lived in the area for his entire life. Speaking to the paper after his departure, he strongly hints that his next move may be away from the area, although also suggests that he wants to aim up a level from where he is currently playing:

"All I’ve known is living in Middlesbrough and playing for Hartlepool – I want to experience something different, as a footballer and a person. I’ve got a very good CV behind me and that’s thanks to Hartlepool. So I’ll have to see what happens these next few weeks but I’d like to think that I could play at a higher level and test myself there. I’m at an age, 25, where I need to look at everything and I just think this is the right time to move on for the good of my career."

In truth, although the Hartlepool Mail suggest that the Glovers are interested, it would appear more likely that he'll be after a move that takes him into a side that is either in the Championship, or more likely to challenge for promotion out of League One.
