18 April 2012 : Officials For Leyton Orient vs Yeovil Town
Officials for Yeovil Town's trip to Leyton Orient, this coming Saturday, have been published by the Football League. The match takes place at Brisbane Road on Saturday 21st April 2012, with a 3.00p.m. kick-off and the man in charge will be referee Andy Haines (Tyne and Wear).

We've had Mr Haines four times before, and on all occasions a lot nearer to his Tyne and Wear home than Orient's ground is. The most recent one came in October 2010, when he looked after a 1-0 win over Rochdale. In general he was fairly uncontroversial, except for one last minute incident when he rejected suggestions that Luke Freeman deserved a penalty after he was brought down by Craig Dawson. Mr Haines said no, but Terry Skiverton said after the game that he disagreed:

"That's two times now where we've had that referee (Andy Haines) - once against Leeds away and then today - where I think we should have had a stonewall penalty. I think the only thing he (Rochdale defender Craig Dawson) didn't do was to bring an axe out!"

As Skivo suggests, we'd also seen him in a match against Leeds United - two in fact, and both at Elland Road. We weren't too happy with some of Mr Haines' decision-making early on in the October 2009 game, although his biggest decision came after the match when Leeds striker Tresol Kandol was given a retrospective red card for attacking Sam Williams after the final whistle. Not much you can do as a referee when players decide to do that.

In the March 2009 meeting, also at Elland Road, Mr Haines didn't have too much of a bad game, and certainly didn't affect the final result, but Glovers boss Terry Skiverton wasn't totally happy with Mr Haines' performance, citing his side's two bookings as part of his post-match views on the official as being evidence that the bigger side was receiving favourable decisions.

Prior to the two Elland Road matches, we had Mr Haines for a pre-season friendly against Plymouth Argyle and a number of occasions as an assistant referee. His one other time in the middle came in January 2008 for a 2-2 draw at Port Vale. We had no major complaints about him on the night.

Mr Haines will be assisted by Michael Blackledge (Cambridgeshire) and Andrew Laver (Hampshire). The Fourth Official will be Craig Hicks (Surrey).
