29 March 2012 : Sixteen Players Out Of Contract In Summer
With seven games left of the 2011-12 season to go, Yeovil Town will soon be turning attention to the large number of players that they have out of contract at the end of the season. As with previous seasons, decisions are being left until the club's League One future has been secured, which of course will mean that many of the club's players will be able to match up any offers given by the Glovers against those of their rival clubs.

Working out exactly who is under contract and who is out of contract at the end of the season is not a precise science, given that one or two of the signings were not announced with contract lengths specified. However, this is our best guess of where things stand. In summary, Yeovil Town have got sixteen players out of contract at the end of the season, and just three players under contract beyond the summer. Two more registered players are part of the management team, whilst the other six players are loanees.

We've provided a link back to the news item that specified the contract length, where appropriate:

Under Contract Until June 2013: Curtis Haynes-Brown, Bondz N'Gala, Anthony Edgar.

Out of Contract in June 2012: Luke Ayling, Paul Huntington, Ed Upson, Dominic Blizzard, Andy Williams, Michael Woods, Kieran Agard, Kelly Youga, Richard Hinds, Steve MacLean, Billy Gibson.

Presumed out of Contract: Gavin Williams and Alistair Slowe. Also first year professionals Rhys Baggridge, Lewis Clarke and Rob Clowes.

Of the above, manager Gary Johnson has already strongly implied that Steve MacLean and Billy Gibson have played their last games for the club, with them out on loan at Cheltenham Town and Braintree Town respectively.

Contract lengths for Gavin Williams and Alistair Slowe have not been specified - although we believe both signed one year deals. In the case of Slowe, there have been rumours that he is no longer even at the club, particularly as the first thing Johnson did when he arrived as Northampton Town manager was to show Slowe the door. In the case of the trio of first year professionals Baggridge, Clarke and Clowes it can probably be safely assumed that they all got one year deals.

Under Contract At Parent Club Beyond This Summer: Jonathan Obika, Sam Walker, Josh Morris, Lawson D'Ath.

Out of Contract At Parent Club: Jonathan Grounds and Jonathan Franks.

Although the club could take out further loan deals with the quartet of players above, realistically the only ones they could sign up permanently are Grounds and Franks, who are expected to leave Middlesbrough this summer as free agents. However, the likes of Hartlepool United are expected to hold a strong interest.

The contract that Gary Johnson holds has never been disclosed by the club, and the press have never commented upon this. Assistant manager Terry Skiverton and first team coach Nathan Jones have deals that run until the end of the 2012-13 season. The contract lengths for Darren Way and Gareth Stewart have never been disclosed.

As far as Johnson is concerned, he has said that a number of players have already been 'informally' spoken to about their contract situation, but that no deals would be put on the table until League One safety was assured. Speaking to this week's Western Gazette, he hoped that would be as soon as the club picked up their next win:

"I have informally spoken to them and some of them are in no doubt that I and the club would like to keep them. They already know that and it gives them a chance to think about it. I think the minute that we are safe, as in not mathematically but one more result will seal it, at that point you can formally start talking to people and that is all I can do now."
