Yeovil Town Ladies hit seven goals past Keynsham Development this afternoon, to continue their charge at the top of the league. In what was top versus bottom in the division, in a game played at Raleigh Grove, Sherborne, they ensured there were no shocks on the cards, securing a 7-0 win with a brace each from Justine Lorton and Laura Bray with further strikes from Jodi Cornwall, Shannon Osman and Rosie Williams.
The result keeps the Glovers firmly in the driving seat at the top of the South West Combination Women's Football League. With main rivals Havant and Waterlooville involved in FA Women's Cup action against Brighton and Hove Albion, this represented the Glovers game in hand, and with all top three clubs now having played 13 games each, they have now opened up an eight point gap at the top of the division.
Next weekend sees the Ladies back at Raleigh Grove, when third placed Forest Green Ladies come to Sherborne. With the Gloucestershire side nine points behind Yeovil, they need to win to stand any chance of clawing back the growing advantage the Glovers have now. For the Glovers, they will secure promotion if they manage eight points from their next five matches regardless of how those points are clocked up. However, if they beat Forest Green next weekend, then they would travel to the following weekend's game against Havant knowing that a win would secure the title.
To cap off a good day, the Ladies' Reserve side won a friendly match this afternoon 7-1 against Poole Town Ladies.
Table: 1. Yeovil Town Ladies (P13, Pts37, GD +34) 2. Havant and Waterlooville (P13 Pts29 GD +24) 3. Forest Green Rovers (P13 Pts28 GD +18).
