Four out of the five FA Cup Third Round live broadcast slots have been selected by ITV and ESPN today, with few surprises in their choices. Only one club from the bottom two Football League divisions will have live coverage, and so far no non-league clubs have been considered. Five of the eight clubs play in the Premiership. The games chosen are:
08/01/2011 : 12:45 : Arsenal v Leeds United (ITV1)
08/01/2011 : 17:30 : Stevenage v Newcastle United (ESPN)
09/01/2011 : 13:30 : Manchester United v Liverpool (ITV1)
09/01/2011 : 16:00 : Leicester City v Manchester City (ESPN)
There will be a 5th match chosen for live coverage, but ESPN have deferred their decision until next week, meaning that they are awaiting the outcome of one of the FA Cup Second Round ties. This is almost certainly the FC United vs Brighton and Hove Albion match where the winners will take on Portsmouth at home. ESPN have selected FC United twice so far, and so a third attempt would seem likely, although the winners of Crawley Town vs Swindon Town, who will play Derby County would also fit the bill.
The above confirmed clubs will grab £144,000 each as the FA's Broadcast Fee for the Third Round. The winning clubs will also receive £67,500, as will all Third Round winners.
