Yeovil Town's defender/midfielder Rob Kiernan has returned to his parent club Watford after having his loan spell at Huish Park terminated today. The Irishman has not featured for the club since the home match against Hartlepool United in August, partly due to an international call-up, and partly due to injury. He also fell foul of the Glovers' heavy use of the loan system that meant that a number of loanees had to be left out of the first team matchday squad.
With Kiernan likely to be called up again for the Republic of Ireland Under-21 squad next weekend, he was unlikely to be used in the foreseeable future. However, his loan deal had been extended to run until January 3rd 2011 at Huish Park. It's not clear which party has made the decision to terminate the loan deal, but it seems highly probable that lack of games was an influencing factor from whichever party pulled the plug.
Rob made one starting appearance and two substitute appearance during his two months at Huish Park, all in a central midfield role, rather than the centre-back position he has more recently occupied for the Republic of Ireland and Watford Reserves.
We naturally wish him the best of luck in his future career at Vicarage Road.
