Yeovil Town supporters who witnessed the performance of left winger Andros Townsend in the August 2009 3-3 draw at Huish Park, will probably heave a sigh of relief that he is unlikely to feature on Saturday. The Glovers knew all about the Tottenham Hotspur loan player from his loan spell in Somerset during the latter stages of the 2008-09 season. Yet that still didn't stop Townsend inflicting some fairly brutal punishment on his former employers - a 70 yard run from the edge of his own penalty area setting the scene for one of the best solo goals seen at Huish Park.
Townsend's loan at Brisbane Road ends on December 31st, having made 22 appearances including 17 starts for Orient, and it looks as though Spurs are going to take their time in making their decision over whether to allow him to return for a second spell. That will mean he will miss out on pitching himself against parent club teammates Jonathan Obika, Ryan Mason and Steven Caulker. Manager Geraint Williams has confirmed that he wants to extend the winger's stay in East London, but Townsend has indicated that Spurs are unlikely to make a decision until the middle of the month:
"I don't mind coming back to be honest. I'm due to go back to Spurs and then review the options. There is a possibility I could come back here. I have to go back to Spurs and then a decision will be made in the middle of January. I have been playing regularly and playing well. I feel I have improved a lot and hopefully I will be back. I don't want to leave them when they are in the bottom four."
Orient slipped into the bottom four on Monday - the first time they had occupied a relegation spot since the end of September. A 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Southend United extended a winless streak to five games, and in addition to Townsend they will have to do without Ben Chorley, who is suspended. However, they are expecting to welcome back Charlie Daniels (ankle) and Ryan Jarvis (illness) to their squad for the January 2nd game, whilst Sean Thornton will return from a one match ban.
