Former Yeovil Town midfielder Jean-Paul Kalala is back training with the club. The Glovers have suggested that his arrival is merely an invitation for him to train with the club at present, although it would be no surprise if there was an element of a trial involved in the equation.
Kalala was most successfully employed during the 2006-07 season as a defensive midfielder - a position that many Glovers fans have noted during early games that the squad lacks, with most of those currently on the books either being attacking midfielders, or box-to-box types. Kalala represents a player who can happily play in front of the back four and sweep up balls before they reach the defence, and certainly if the Glovers are to add to their squad, it is this sort of a player that is the priority.
Kalala made 42 appearances for the club during the 2006-07 season, scoring one goal, and was part of the squad who went to Wembley for the League One Play-Off Final. After leaving the Glovers he spent two years with Oldham Athletic but only made 26 appearances for them, and spent a fair chunk of last season on loan with Grimsby Town, playing 22 times for the League Two side. He is currently without a club, having been released by the Latics over the summer.
