Gary Johnson Speaks To The BBC Just Before Kick-Off Against Brentford

Yeovil Town manager Gary Johnson spoke to BBC Bristol reporter Ed Hadwin just before kick-off against Brentford on Saturday 3rd March 2012. Yeovil went on to win the match 2-1.

EH: Gary, team-wise how are you lining up this afternoon?

GJ: Well, we've made a few changes to be fair. I felt that we needed to just rest up our two centre-halves, with Bondz (N'Gala) and (Richard) Hinds. I think both of them have done okay. Bondz has made his mistake (at Carlisle for the second goal) and he is really disappointed with himself, but to be fair up until then they had both done okay.

But I just felt that I wanted to freshen it up. We've got eight games in March, and I see that Brentford have done that actually with quite a few (team changes) as well. I want to bring in Dominic Blizzard in the middle there, and he's come in for (Ed) Upson, who also hasn't let me down. I'm bringing in (Dean) Parrett as well. What does that leave us with? I do know the team - honestly! (laughs)

EH: But it's nice for you to have the strength on the bench, that you feel comfortable doing that.

GJ: Yes, Lawson (D'Ath) is unlucky as although he didn't have a great game at Carlisle, he's a top player. As he's our sixth loan today, he can't be involved. But again with eight games in March, he's going to be very important to us, as is Ed Upson, as is (Richard) Hinds, as is Bondz (N'Gala).

EH: Nice to have your skipper back today.

GJ: Yes, it's good to get Hunts (Paul Huntington) back in. There's a slight change in that we've got Jonathan Grounds, who is going to come along side Hunts. I just need to block up that middle area for today, where we've been letting in goals. I don't want to put the other lads under pressure again. Even thought they'd want the pressure and would rather stay in there - Hinds and Bondz - I just thought there's a chance to have a look at those two together. I want Nathan Jones, because at home, he's been a good forward thinking player and he's a good talker. He's been taking the back four so they've all got the right words etc. So that's what we're doing.

EH: You must be enjoying playing in front of the home fans. The sun is shining today; three straight wins. That pressure, if there was any, has been lifted a little bit.

GJ: Yes - is three straight wins a fortress yet? It's not far off, is it? Today, I just feel the lads have been up for it for a little while now. We were unlucky last week, although you can't win every game. Nobody can win every game in the division - I keep saying that. We were unlucky last week (against Carlisle) and it could have quite easily have gone in our favour, even though some reporters said we played really poor, we didn't play really as poor as some of them who are not a million miles away from here said!

Yes, we were disappointed with the result, but there were certain parts of the game, and we had two great chances at 2-2 to go home having won the game. It just didn't happen. We've got a group of games where we can get ourselves nicely out of trouble, and I for one am confident that our squad is going to be good enough to quickly get a few results together. It might not be today; we hope it's today, but we certainly can put results together - this team can.
