Profile : Colin, who was signed by Gary Johnson as Pluck in the summer of 2001, but later changed his name to Miles for family reasons, was a cult figure amongst fans at Huish Park. Cult footballers are not always the best, or the most talented - in fact usually they are not these things - but are players who for whatever reason capture the fans imagination.

With Colin it wasn't hard to discover why. Charming, quiet and almost reserved off the pitch, one rarely had long to wait for his er 'special song' to ring out from the terrace when he was on it. "Colin Miles is a f***ing mentalist!" didn't leave anything to the imagination about his style of play: wholehearted and sometimes rugged, he added steel in a side that could be too cultured for its own good on occasion. Although all too frequently playing through the pain barrier, and rarely in recent times capable of 90 minutes, he was a player both Johnson and Steve Thompson would turn to in the really crucial games when they wanted someone they could rely on to stand up and be counted and give his absolute all. That's what makes a cult player for many fans, and Milesy never let anyone down when he was on the pitch, even if he sometimes left it early through injury or the occasional red card.

Colin was already known to Gary Johnson prior to his arrival at Yeovil having worked under him as a player in the Watford Youth Academy, whilst Johnson was the Academy director. After leaving Watford in February 2000, he spent 13 months north of the border playing for Scottish side Morton before then going through a fairly nomadic 15 month period that saw him cycle through Stevenage Borough, Dover Athletic and Hayes without really settling into any of the three teams. It was therefore a slight surprise that he should be considered for a team who were then trying to get out of the Nationwide Conference, but Gary Johnson's work with the player at Watford clearly left him well-judged to know what he could get out of him.

After five years at Huish Park, Colin decided it was time to move on and on June 29th 2006, he signed a deal with fellow League One side Port Vale and had this to say of his move:

"It wasn't an easy decision for me, I have been at Yeovil a long time and I have enjoyed my time there, but I am looking forward to playing for Port Vale. What helped make my mind up was the welcome I received at Vale Park. I met the manager last week and all the staff and had a look round the place and that is what made my mind up. I feel Vale are going places or I wouldn't have signed otherwise. I like ambitious clubs - I first signed for Yeovil when they were going places, and I get that feeling here."
