Name: Carl Dickinson
Position: Left Back
Date of Birth: 31 March 1987
Place of Birth: Swadincote, Derbyshire
Carl Dickinson was signed by Yeovil Town on June 21st 2018 on a permanent contract, as their second arrival of that summer. Born in Swadincote in Derbyshire, on March 31st 1987, he had youth spells with Derby County and Stoke City before turning professional with the latter in 2004. There he made 60 first team appearances, the majority of which were in the Championship, during the 2007-08 season. Around that point he had a myriad of loan spells, including Icelandic side Vikingur (2 appearances), Blackpool (10 appearances), Leeds United (7 appearances), Barnsley (29 appearances) and Portsmouth (39 appearances) with the latter two clubs operating in the Championship.
In the summer of 2011, he left Stoke and signed a three year deal with Watford, playing under Sean Dyche, with a fee reported as being in the region of £250,000. He made 47 appearances across two seasons, although all bar six of those were in his first season. A second loan spell with Portsmouth (6 appearances) was followed up by seven loan appearances for Coventry City.
At that point, he dropped into League One, where he spent three seasons playing for Port Vale, clocking up 143 appearances and scoring four goals between 2013 and 2016. Then came his move to Notts County where he played 72 times in two seasons, scoring once for a side that reached the League Two play-offs. He was released at the end of the 2017-18 season and so joined Yeovil Town as a free agent.
Dickinson played a full 90 minutes in the November 2017 match against Yeovil Town at Huish Park that ended in a 1-1 draw, playing as their left-back on the night. But by the time the club travelled up to Meadow Lane in April 2018, he had lost his place in the side to Daniel Jones - who scored the opening goal that day. Ultimately Dickinson didn't make it onto the field of play after April 2nd for County, and was not involved in their League Two play-off matches. As such, his release at the end of the season was understandable, although up until that point he had played in 32 matches that season, including 26 games in League Two.
He can play either as a left-back or as a centre-back, but is generally known for occupying the full-back slot. Dickinson has signed a two year contract at Yeovil Town that will keep him at the club until June 2020.
