Profile :
James Hayter is a striker who agreed a two year contract with Yeovil Town after leaving Doncaster Rovers in the summer of 2012, having ended a five years stay in Yorkshire. His roots are decidedly more Southern England though. James was born in Sandown on the Isle of Wight on April 9th 1979, and was part of AFC Bournemouth's academy system, spending 11 years as a professional for the Cherries. During his early years he spent time out on loan with Salisbury City before becoming a Cherries regular.
He set the Football League's record for the fastest ever hat-trick in February 2004, netting three goals in 140 seconds in a match against Wrexham, after coming on as an 84th minute substitute, grabbing the match ball by getting the final three goals in a 6-0 win. Overall he made close to 400 appearances for Bournemouth between 1996 and 2007, scoring 107 times for the Cherries
The summer of 2007 saw him clinch a £200,000 move to Doncaster Rovers, where he spent five years, making over 150 appearances for the Yorkshire side. During his final season for Donny he played 33 times, scoring five goals - overall his tally gave him 39 goals. The biggest one of those came at Wembley Stadium - the only goal in the 2008 League One play-off final win over Leeds United a year after his arrival.
He was released by Doncaster upon their relegation from the Championship, at the end of the 2011-12 season, and thus joined Yeovil as a free agent. At 5'9" tall, he is no target man, although despite that he is known for scoring his fair share of headers. He also adds plenty of experience to the Glovers side, with over 500 appearances at Football League level to his name.
