Ed Upson was born in Bury St Edmunds on November 21st 1989. He came up through the Ipswich youth ranks, scoring in the FA Youth Cup when aged just 15 years old.
He signed a professional contract with the Tractor Boys at the age of 17 and shortly afterwards made his one and only appearance for England Under 19s against Belarus in September 2007. He failed to make a first team League appearance at Portman Road during his three years as a professional, with just two substitute appearances in the Carling Cup to his name. However, he has had short loan spells with Stevenage Borough in the Conference, where he made one substitute appearance, and a slightly longer spell with Barnet during the 2009-10 season that gave him nine appearances and one goal.
Ed plays as a central midfielder although can also operate on the left flank. He initially signed a two year contract with Yeovil Town on July 2nd 2010, but then agreed a new two year deal in May 2012 that will keep him at the club until June 2014.
