Match Report:

Yeovil Town headed into the Third Round of the EFL Trophy tonight, after a 2-0 victory over League One side AFC Wimbledon. Both goals were scored during the second half, as Swansea City loanee Keston Davies scored his first goal for the club, having converted an Otis Khan corner four minutes after the break. The route into the next round was secured four minutes from the end when substitute Jake Gray's speculative shot went in via the near post, to put the Glovers into the next round.

The Glovers went into the match making five changes to their line-up, with Keston Davies and Bevis Mugabi coming into defence, Connor Smith and Oscar Gobern starting as midfielders, whilst Jordan Green's inclusion allowed Olufela Olomola to move into the front line. In the main though, it was a rotation of the main squad with Ryan Dickson the only senior player to sit the game out entirely from Saturday. AFC Wimbledon also mixed up their starting line-up, but named four youth team players as their only outfield substitutes.

The home side largely dominated the first half, albeit without significantly testing Dons keeper Joe McDonnell. Connor Smith put over the bar from a narrow angle, whilst a wild attempt from Bevis Mugabi was a long distance away. Sam Surridge went far closer and probably should have done better with a free header that went wide. Wimbledon contributed little in an attacking sense, with their main purpose during the first half apparently being them trying to work out what formation they wanted to play - their best effort on goal was a well hit George Francomb effort that Artur Krysiak did well to hold onto.

Yeovil's best chance, and in truth their only proper on target shot, came via one of Tom James's whipped free kicks as he looped it over the wall, with McDonnell doing well to watch the swerve and push it over the crossbar. But all that changed four minutes into the second period when an Otis Khan corner was flicked on by Keston Davies. The ball hit the post with Wimbledon unsuccessful in trying to clear it off the line, for a deserved 1-0 lead.

Wimbledon's response to that was an unorthodox one, as they took off two of their main forward players, in Cody McDonald and Harry Forrester, and replaced them with youth team graduates. Yeovil also made changes, with Francois Zoko and Matt Worthington introduced, whilst Wimbledon were to end the evening with three of their Academy players on the pitch.

The Glovers wrapped the tie up four minutes from time when their final substitute Jake Gray tried a fairly speculative shot that went in via the near post and in for a 2-0 lead. With Wimbledon not even having a second half shot, it was a comfortable victory and route into the second round, albeit in a match watched by only 886 spectators - comfortably Yeovil's lowest crowd for a competitive fixture since they entered the Football League, not helped by the competition's overall profile and reputation over the last eighteen months.
