Match Report:

Yeovil Town picked up their first home win in five matches, thanks to a 2-0 win over Crewe Alexandra this afternoon. The Glovers scored a goal in each half with Rhys Browne netting his third goal of the season after an Otis Khan cross had been flicked on by Francois Zoko. Then Olufela Olomola doubled the lead after he converted a Ryan Dickson cross. Crewe had their own chances as they hit the woodwork twice during the game, but the home side saw the game out in a more positive manner than they have done in recent matches, to push them up to 17th in the League Two table.

The Glovers went into the match making three changes to their starting line-up, with Sid Nelson having to withdraw from the squad due to an operation on a broken nose. His position was taken by Omar Sowunmi. Matt Worthington's place in the side was taken by Rhys Browne as a formation change saw 4-3-3 replaced by 4-4-2. In the back four, a straight swap saw Bevis Mugabi preferred for Tom James. In the Crewe line-up, Zoumana Bakayogo was one of those former Glovers you forgot existed - his loan period during the 2013-14 season was cruelly ended by an ACL injury in his one appearance at St Andrews, against Birmingham City.

This was an open match throughout the 90 minutes that swung from end-to-end at frequent intervals. Olufela Olomola got the first shot of the game in, but it was deflected by a defender meaning the Crewe keeper Dave Richards got an easy take. Things were rather closer at the other end, when Chris Cooper's effort clipped the outside of the goalpost, before Olomola got in behind the Crewe defence only to fire wide.

Yeovil took the lead, a quarter of an hour into the match. Otis Khan's low cross was flicked across the box by Francois Zoko into the path of Rhys Browne. He only had a narrow angle to shoot, but fired home from close range for his third goal of the season, and to give him a lift after being recalled to the starting eleven. That level of confidence showed when Olomola put him through on goal, but Browne's chance to put his side two up went over the bar.

As the half closed, Crewe began to get a grip on the game, with Artur Krysiak getting down low to his right to save a Jordan Bowery effort, before a Tom Lowery cross forced Krysiak to palm the ball away as it went dangerously close to goal. Krysiak saved again from a Callum Ainley effort, and then from Bowery as a throw-in allowed Lowery to cross into the box. Crewe had enough chances to have easily equalised by the time the half time whistle blew, but thankfully Yeovil just about stood firm.

Ten minutes of the second half pointed to more of the same, albeit with Crewe's chances being limited to Conor Grant putting an effort over the bar. But ten minutes into the half, Yeovil doubled their lead with their first chance of the second period. Ryan Dickson burst down the left flank, and put in a cross that found Olufela Olomola. His shot took a deflection that caused the ball to loop, and that was good enough to give him his sixth goal of the season and to give the Glovers a decent cushion at 2-0.

Crewe introduced the experienced Chris Dagnall as a substitute, and then went ultra-close when an Eddie Nolan header hit the crossbar, but then found Jordan Bowery wasting the rebound as it went over the bar. There was a lengthy delay when Olufela Olomola went down injured close to the touchline, which required lengthy treatment and an immediate substitution - the big concern being that his fall to the turf didn't appear to be from any obvious contact from any Crewe players - Sam Surridge replaced him.

Having allowed two goal leads to slip against Forest Green, Morecambe and Chesterfield this season, all eyes were on the clock and what might happen if Crewe got a goal back. But actually Yeovil had enough efforts in the closing stages to have justified a third goal as they caught the visitors on the break. Rhys Browne had a shot parried away by the keeper, Francois Zoko put over the crossbar from a Sam Surridge move, and then Browne had another effort saved by the keeper's feet. Their one wobble was when Artur Krysiak dropped the ball inside his own box, but Ryan Dickson was on hand to block the ball on the line.

The only negative points came from Francois Zoko picking up his fifth yellow card of the season, which will see him heading for suspension, whilst there will be concern at Olufela Olomola's injury during the second period. But on the flip side, the first clean sheet in seven games, and the first home win in five games pulled Yeovil up to 17th in the table, and stops some of the recent concern over their results for the time being.
