We never thought we'd live to see the day when Yeovil Town could start a match as favourites against Norwich City. Whether the bookies have got the jitters over Norwich's 1-7 home stuffing against Colchester United that has sent more than a few ripples around the footballing world, or whether they're impressed by some fairly solid home form from the Glovers during most of 2009, it's hard to tell.
But here we are with Norwich best priced at 17/10 with Bet365 whilst the widest odds visible for Yeovil Town are 8/5 with Stan James and Sky Bet. The draw is priced at 12/5 with five different bookies.
In terms of the match, which is a Carling Cup First Round tie, if the scores are level after 90 minutes, we will proceed directly to extra time on the night, followed by a penalty shoot-out. So you need to be quite clear about what you're betting on - it is likely that you will be betting against the result after 90 minutes but check the small print.
Despite rating the Glovers higher for the win, in terms of the first goalscorer, Norwich's Grant Holt is the favourite to score first rated at 6/1 by several bookies. If it's Yeovil players you're after, then Gavin Tomlin is at 7/1 with Skybet, whilst Andre McCollin is 10/1 and Sam Williams is 12/1. Most of the bookies have now got round to recognising Dean Bowditch as a Yeovil player now but don't put your money on him because he won't be playing! There's a few interesting wildcards out there, with Stefan Stam and Steven Caulker rated at 40/1, despite them being likely to feature on set pieces.
Finally, just purely for reference, Yeovil are currently 2000/1 to win the Carling Cup outright. Norwich City are a mere 750/1 depending on which bookie you use. But we suspect and hope that you will not be rushing out to take them up on that offer.
