Officials for Yeovil Town's Carling Cup First Round match against Norwich City on Tuesday night have been announced. Taking charge will be James Linington (Isle of Wight).
Although Mr Linington has been a regular at Huish Park over the years, it has largely been as an assistant referee or fourth official. He was promoted for the start of the 2008-09 season and he took charge of two Yeovil Town matches to favourable impressions.
The most recent match was the Christmas holiday trip to Millwall, where a 1-1 draw at the New Den saw the game flow well, with plenty of attacking football from both sides. As for Mr Linington, we barely noticed him, which is always a good thing.
The other match saw Crewe Alexandra as our opponents at Huish Park, and there's little doubt that the 3-2 scoreline and the thrilling way the game ebbed and flowed will have influenced our thoughts on the referee, but bar a grumble that he didn't get out his cards for one theatrical Crewe dive, our recollection is one of general happiness with his performance on the night in what was his first ever match at League One level.
Mr Linington will be assisted by Stephen Phipps (Oxfordshire) and Mark Russell (Gloucestershire). The Fourth Official will be Andrew Bennett (Devon).
