Further to Saturday's news concerning Tottenham Hotspur striker Ryan Mason, it now looks possible that another of his team-mates may be joining him.
Central defender Steven Caulker is 17 years old and has just signed his first professional contract at White Hart Lane after appearing in 31 out of 34 matches at Academy level last season. He also made five appearances for the Reserves including three starts. He was born on December 29th 1991 and attended Lampton School. He is certainly no slouch, being borough champion at 400m at his age group for four years in a row.
Again, like the Mason rumour, there has been no official confirmation of this yet, so treat this with a pinch of salt until we are able to absolutely confirm it or dismiss it. One supporter has said that BBC Somerset have reported both names on their lunchtime bulletin, although we've yet to hear the broadcasts. Given the complex nature of the loan transfer system, the club may delay formal announcements to fit in with the rules concerning loan deals and the maximum period of time that players can spend with clubs for short-term deals.
There are also suggestions that the Glovers are taking two goalkeepers on trial with them to North Devon tonight. As things stand, Yeovil Town are without any contracted keeper and the club have yet to indicate who is likely to be between the sticks for tonight's match. The name of former Hartlepool United keeper Arran Lee-Barrett has been mentioned, but again no confirmation either way that he is in North Devon for tonight's match.
Looking around League One at present, the situation amongst clubs seems to suddenly be very fluid with many clubs covering "new trialists" stories. Hence expect a whole load of movement around the leagues, and maybe the odd touch of confusion, over the next few days as players jump all over the place in search of anyone who will offer them a decent contract. We should be able to bring more concrete news as part of tonight's game.
