Tuesday night's match against Stockport County in the FA Cup First Round Replay, will be looked after by the familiar name of Rob Shoebridge (Derbyshire).
We've had Mr Shoebridge on four previous occasions, with the most recent coming just two months ago for the 2-2 home draw with Bristol Rovers. He was the referee that awarded Rovers a penalty in front of the home end against Terry Skiverton, although it was that easy to give, we suspect that even Skivo might have pointed to the spot. Elsewhere in the match, Mr Shoebridge had a tidy match, attracting little attention.
Just over a year ago in a Johnstone's Paint Trophy match against Shrewsbury Town, Mr Shoebridge was also the man in the middle. He doesn't merit a mention in the match report, although we probably weren't particularly motivated towards getting on our high horse about match officials in a JPT match.
Prior to that, we had Mr Shoebridge on New Year's Day in 2007 against Northampton Town. This match was particularly memorable for Mr Shoebridge's decision to wear a black shirt for what was a dull dusky winter's day, thus ensuring that for the best part of the first half he became indistinguishable from the dark navy blue of the Northampton strip, requiring Glovers striker Lee Morris to make a complaint to the fourth official to persuade the referee to change his attire. Aside from that we had some quibbles about Mr Shoebridge's inconsistency in card waving.
Rob Shoebridge also took charge of the stunning 4-3 win at Glanford Park against Scunthorpe United in October 2005. We suspect the seven goals and high drama consumed any comments we wished to make about his performance on that day as he doesn't gain a mention in that report.
Mr Shoebridge will be assisted by Steve Cook (Derbyshire) and Ian Dudley (Nottinghamshire). The Fourth Official will be Paul Tierney (Lancashire).
