Wednesday night will see Yeovil Town travel to play Hillingdon Borough in a pre-season friendly at the Middlesex Stadium. For those going to the 7.45p.m. kick-off, the following should help you get there.
Address: Middlesex Stadium, Breakspear Rd, Ruislip, HA4 7SB.
Tel: 01895 639544
Link: Multimap.com Website : Middlesex Stadium Map.
Directions: The ground is situated in Ruislip Common, just north of the main Ruislip town centre.
If you're coming from outside London (i.e. from the west) from the M25 take the M40/A40 towards central London. Just after it becomes the A40, take the B467 towards Ickenham and Ruislip, passing through Ickenham and continuing towards Ruislip on the B466. Upon reaching Ruislip town centre, take the A4180 northbound towards Rickmansworth.
At the edge of Ruislip town, take a left turn into Breakspear Road, towards the Breakspear Crematorium. If you pass the Fire Station then you have gone slightly too far. The Middlesex Stadium is just beyond the crematorium on the right hand side.
If you're coming from Central London, then take the A40 out of London until you reach the Polish War Memorial roundabout just short of RAF Northolt. Take the A4180 all the way up through Ruislip and then follow the same directions as those above when coming out of Ruislip town centre.
Public Transport: By public transport this is slightly more problematic. The nearest stations are West Ruislip and Ruislip, both of which are just over a mile away. From West Ruislip walk into Ruislip town centre (unless you're prepared to take a couple of minor road short cuts) and from Ruislip town centre (and therefore that tube stop) again it's a northbound route up the A4180. The Bus 331 runs towards Uxbridge / Belmont Road and may save your legs a bit. If you choose to walk the full distance then you're looking at a 30-35 minute walk.
Pubs: Ruislip is what one expects of London suburbia when it comes to pubs - decidedly grim. That said, two of what may be the more adequate ones are relatively close to the ground. The first in fact, The Woodman (HA4 7SE), is right on the doorstep. Open all day, does lunch but no food in the evening, and has some standard real ale.
At the far (west) end of Breakspear Road and around ten minutes walk from the stadium, is The Breakspear Arms (UB9 6LT). This is an ex-Hungry Horse pub (it was bought by the former landlords of The Woodman), and - certainly up to the last comments we've found on it - retains the ties with Greene King beers and the same sort of menu. Open all day, food available in the evening, and has a large beer garden.
General Info: The Middlesex Stadium has a capacity of 3,587. Hillingdon play in Isthmian League Division One North, having just transferred from the Southern League Division One South & West division. One of their new opponents for the forthcoming season will be Potters Bar Town who Yeovil played as their opening friendly.
