Clubs participating in this year's Carling Cup and FA Cup will be able to name seven substitutes as part of the new competition rules. Although we've not seen any evidence of the Football League's AGM as having taken place, this was one of the items on the agenda for debate.
The Premier League have already agreed to allow seven substitutes to sit on the bench in next seasons league matches and that now has been extended to include the two other domestic competitions they appear in.
Clubs will still only be able to use three of the seven substitutes named, but Glovers boss Russell Slade hinted last season that such a rule change would be enough to persuade him to put a substitute keeper on the bench for such competitions - something he generally shies away from during league matches.
