Yeovil Town Reserves went out of the Somerset Premier Cup tonight by a 0-2 scoreline at Huish Park against former non-league rivals Bath City. For the first time ever in a competitive fixture between the two sides, it was Yeovil's second team facing Bath's first team, and the difference showed in a first half that was dominated by the Conference South side.
Disaster struck as early as the first minute - a Bath left-wing cross took a deflection and that was enough to create confusion between goalkeeper Darren Behcet and defender Adam Howarth, with the unlucky keeper scooping the ball over his own line.
Bath dominated the half, including strong possession and plenty of corners and it was from one of those set plays that they doubled their lead - a Phil Walsh flicked header that put the non-league side in the driving seat.
The second period saw Yeovil rally, though without creating too much in the way of hard chances. Bath were forced onto the back foot, but far too many crosses were speculative rather than dangerous, and the Glovers forwards failed to impose themselves in the box. As a result, the Glovers went out in the semi-final of the competition in a rather inert manner, with little to suggest that Russell Slade should be significantly altering his first team line-up on Saturday.
