Further to the Ciderspace news page item on Friday, the reason behind the collapse of popular striker James Walkers’ transfer from Charlton Athletic to Southend United was yesterday clarified by a statement on the Shrimpers OS.
During the medical, the Southend club doctor discovered anomalies in the rhythm of James’s heartbeat. He was referred to Southend Hospital for further tests and examinations. The consultant there then referred him to the Royal Brompton Hospital in London for more sophisticated and additional tests to determine the extent of the problem.
It was not until last Friday afternoon that Southend Chairman, Ron Martin, received a call from the consultant outlining the results. He advised that the condition of James should be monitored for three months and that all training and football should cease for that period. This would enable specialists to determine the impact of the condition on his future health.
Ciderspace would like to join all Glovers and football fans in wishing James best wishes in overcoming this problem. We hope that he can resume his promising career in the near future.
