Yeovil Town's Community Trust sides have been in action today with matches against Plymouth Argyle's academy sides dominating the fixtures. A mixture of results saw the Under 15s come out the best - drawing 1-1 with Argyle at Yeovilton. On a neighbouring pitch, the Under 14s narrowly lost 2-1.
There was less joy for the Under 12s who were down on the Home Park pitches, losing 6-0 to Argyle's Under 12s. They had also played on Thursday, losing 3-0 to a very big and physical Rovers side who had scored within a minute of the game starting at Yeovilton. Despite the early goal, the Yeovil boys battled hard for the remaining of the match but the Rovers side were so much taller - including one six-footer! - and chances just did not come for the home side. The boys must be congratulated for their commitment against much bigger boys who they would not normally come up against in the Yeovil League.
The Under 14s match today was watched by Steve Fordon and he supplied the following report on the game:
Team v Plymouth at Yeovilton 16/12/07
Dan Williams, Louis Voizey, Henry Bond(c), Ben Roberts
Alex Pathy, James Golby, Tom Hopkins, Anthony Essu
Lloyd Mathews, Harry Baker
Rolling Subs: Max Harrington, Louis Morgan
This was a chance for the Yeovil boys to see how much they had improved in the last few months since they last played Plymouth. With regular left back Mikey Fordon pulling out last minute, centre back Ben Roberts pressed to start as emergency cover.
Playing into the wind the early play favoured Plymouth, with the two centre backs struggling to deal with balls over the top, but it was Yeovil who took the early lead through a Williams penalty. After intercepting a ball down his wing, Roberts played the ball to Essu who jinxed his way down the left past a couple of players before squaring the ball to Baker, who was nudged over in the box. Up stepped Williams to tuck away the penalty (His dad assures me he hasn't missed one since under 9's!).
Plymouth fought back hard with constant balls looking to loop over the two centre backs. It was unfortunate that a misplaced headed clearance from Yeovil's best player on the day, Roberts skewed straight into the path of a speedy Plymouth striker who fired low past the onrushing keeper.
With the scores at 1-1 manager for the day Danny Thompson, replaced Bond with Harrington in an attempt to quell the Plymouth forwards. Yeovil were now subjected to long periods of pressure which resulted in a Plymouth second goal after the striker cut in from the left to beat Haines. 1-2 to Plymouth at half time.
In the second half Roberts was moved into the centre, Harrington to left back and Bond replaced Voizey in an effort to cut out the Plymouth threat. The second half was a much improved performance, with Roberts starring in the centre. Plymouth were trying to hit Yeovil on the break now as the pendulum swung in Yeovil's favour. Yeovil pushed hard to level with Williams having one cleared off the line and causing the Plymouth keeper to make at least one fine save. Unfortunately it just wouldn't go in.
Final Score: Yeovil Town U14s 1 Plymouth Argyle U14s 2.
