This morning's Western Daily Press are claiming that Manchester United reservist Ritchie Jones should arrive at the club on loan sometime today. Jones is a 20 year old midfielder who the Glovers have been chasing for well over a month but have struggled to tie up until now, and his name has been circulating on the rumourmill for several weeks.
He was born in Stockport on September 26th 1986, and has made four appearances for the Premier League side, albeit with all of these being in cup competitions. He has also had loan spells with Belgian side Royal Antwerp, plus Championship sides Colchester United and Barnsley. He is likely to play in the centre of midfield, but can also play on the wing, as a full-back or as a central defender. The WDP describe him as right-sided. At 6'2" he would also add height to the Glovers' side.
Ritchie has played for England at U15, U16, U17, U18, U19 and U20 levels. He was a member of the England Under-19 squad which reached the final of the European Under-19 Football Championship in July 2005. He has also captained his country on various occasions.
The WDP also say that Ishmael Welsh is likely to complete a loan move to Torquay United in time to play for the Gulls tonight. The loan move is being arranged with a view to a permanent transfer to Plainmoor.
Edit: Now confimed by the club as a long term loan.
