The Dorset Echo has confirmed recent rumours on Dorchester Town and Weymouth message boards that the South Coast side have been knocked back in a recent attempt to capture Yeovil Town's Youth Team captain Gary Bowles on loan.
Gary has been playing out on loan for the Magpies since late last year, mainly being used as a right-back, but he was spotted by Weymouth manager Jason Tindall playing in last week's friendly at the Avenue Stadium in his favoured centre-back position, playing for Yeovil Town Reserves. Tindall told the paper just before the weekend that he had attempted to take him down the road to the Wessex Stadium but that Bowles turned him down:
"He has decided to stay with Dorchester, for whatever reason I don’t know. I am very disappointed but there is nothing we can do about it. He did well on Tuesday and I felt he would have done well for us."
Dorchester manager Mick Jenkins has said that following last week's friendly he may move him into a central position at some stage:
"One of the ideas of the game the other night was to see him at centre back and he coped very well. He said he was quite happy with the set up here. I just had to give him the courtesy of informing him of the approach from Weymouth."
Gary has so far played five times for Dorchester since arriving at the Avenue Stadium.
