Yeovil Town's friendly trail hit the road again last night with a return to The Avenue where the club played its first five "home" fixtures last season.
Andy Lindegaard was captain for the evening. Adam Stansfield started on the ground where his previous season lasted seventeen minutes before he broke a leg. On this occasion he made it to forty, before limping off. Right leg again, but thankfully reported as being just a twist this time. However our advice is that Adam sticks to the Dorchester by-pass in future whenever he's in the vicinity of that town. However in the main manager Gary Johnson selected a side to give maximum exposure to squad players and trialists, as the time fast approaches when he must make decisions on who to retain.
Before kick-off one of those decisions was revealed to the 755 crowd, as giant 6' 8" centre-back Hugo Rodrigues announced his own signing over the tannoy. Johnson is quoted as saying that "his height immediately stood out to me". Not much gets past our Gary!
Johnson was still keen to look at more central defenders as of last night. David Artell was born on 22nd November 1980 in Rotherham, where he also started his career in 1998. He spent more or less the whole of last season on loan at Shrewsbury Town and has made 65 Football League appearances between the two clubs. Artell played the whole 90 minutes of last night's game.
On the pitch Dorchester Town took a 2-0 lead in the first half through Matt Groves and Andy Harris, but Yeovil came roaring back in the second after some positional changes and the odd substitution with five unanswered goals. Scorers were: Andy Lindegaard (2), Kirk Jackson (2) and Abdelhalim El Kholti. Go here for the Ciderspace match report.
