13 May 2019 : Mugabi Given Call-Up For Ugandan Pre-AFCON Training Camp
Yeovil Town defender Bevis Mugabi has been restored to the Uganda Cranes national team, ahead of the summer's 2019 AFCON Finals. The tournament takes place between June 21st and July 19th, featuring 24 teams that will play in Egypt. This is the 24 year old's first call-up to the Ugandan squad since he was an unused substitute in a pair of matches during June 2018. He was not selected for any of their games during the active part of the 2018-19 season, leaving him waiting to add to the pair of caps he gained during March 2018.

At present, Uganda Cranes head Coach Sebastien Desabre has selected 26 players for a training camp that is taking place at the Kabira Country Club. For the moment that squad features just locally based players, with those players that play for overseas clubs joining their teammates for a secondary training camp in the UAE. At that point, Desabre will reduce the size of his squad down to the 23 players that will be officially registered for the AFCON tournament.

Desabre has already tweaked that provisional squad, following a couple of issues. Striker Joel Madondo has left to have trials for a club in Turkey, whilst defender Brian Majwega has been let go due to discipline issues. They have been replaced by Vipers striker Dan Sserunkuma and Disan Galiwango

Uganda have been drawn to play in Group A, which will see them play Egypt, Zimbabwe and the Democratic Republic of Congo. They will face DRC on June 22 in their opening game. Assuming Mugabi makes the final cut, and Uganda progress, he is likely to miss the start of 2019-20 pre-season training, if he is still on the books of Yeovil Town. Mugabi's contract with the club runs out on June 30th, and so good performances in the AFCON tournament may put himself in the shop window if the club haven't tied him down by then.
