Glovers boss Steve Thompson has praised Yeovil Town's Under 18s side for winning the Football League Youth Alliance South West Conference title yesterday. The Youth Team clinched the title with a game to spare with a 3-2 win over Oxford United (see yesterday's news) completing a great day for manager Stuart Housley.
Speaking of the news Steve said: "They've won the league and that's great. Stuart is not only enthusiastic, but he is dedicated as well and he helps a lot with the first team training. So it's great that the lads have won that league. That would be a nice double if we stay up and they win their league. We've got to fulfil our part now and get the point or two that would ensure our League One safety."
Steve also recognised the achievement was significant because it was achieved against opposition with significantly greater resources: "They have Centre of Excellences or academies. We don't have that obviously. We have part time training for the boys, once or twice a week. We occasionally get them in here and a lot of them play in Reserve Team football. It's a great achievement for Stuart to win the league against bigger clubs in terms of the academies and facilities they have."
