6 April 2019 : Marmon Confirms Dickinson, Alcock and Zoko Situations
Yeovil Town Caretaker Manager Neale Marmon has confirmed that he does not expect full-backs Craig Alcock and Carl Dickinson to play for the club again this season. The pair were largely frozen out under previous boss Darren Way over the last six weeks, but have not been part of recent training sessions, with Dickinson seen attending a Stoke City match last weekend, whilst the Staffordshire press spotted him training with Port Vale on Friday.

The pair had fallen out of favour from mid-February onwards, with Alcock not appearing on a teamsheet, whilst Dickinson's only inclusion was during Way's final game at Milton Keynes Dons. With Dickinson clearly not being in the Yeovil area, and Alcock not seen on the training ground despite being fully fit, the suspicion was that their days were numbered. Marmon told BBC Somerset after today's game that whilst Dickinson had headed back to his Midlands home, Alcock was helping with the Academy coaching for the time being. But he stressed that it was his decision, when he took over the reins at the club:

"My first decision with Dicko (Carl Dickinson) and Craig Alcock was for them not to be involved anymore. First of all I felt the future was in my hands in terms of blooding young players. I thought Daniel Ojo did very well today. He obviously makes mistakes at 18 years old. That's normal. So I think I have alternatives at left-back. I can put Tom James over there, Josh Grant over there when they're fit. So that was an easy decision. Craig Alcock hadn't really played at all, so what we did was we put him into the Academy, to help out there. That's functioning very well."

Marmon also confirmed that striker Francois Zoko had been allowed to skip training on Friday afternoon, to give him an extended weekend back at his home in Nottingham. However, in this instance, he implies that Zoko's circumstances were a case of the current 'pecking order' rather than a permanent thing. He said he had given Zoko options of what he'd prefer to do, having told him he wouldn't be in the squad for the Swindon game:

"Francois Zoko for me was third or fourth in the pecking order for a striker, so what I did was I gave him an offer, either to train Friday and go home and see his kids, or to go home on Thursday to miss the traffic, or to travel with us to Swindon and watch the game if he wanted to, and then drive home. So he decided to go home on the Thursday. There's no animosity at all. It's just that I said he wasn't in the pecking order to play, so I gave him the time off."

Francois Zoko and Craig Alcock's contracts run out at the end of the 2018-19 season, which would suggest that they will now need to start looking for new clubs. However, Carl Dickinson's situation may be a bit more complicated given he is under contract until June 2020. It's possible that Marmon's successor as permanent first team manager may hold different views to him, and seek to bring Dickinson back into the fold, but for the remainder of the season it's highly unlikely that himself or Alcock will be seen, whilst Zoko's game time will depend heavily on the fitness of the other strikers who were in today's matchday squad at Swindon.

Marmon also confirmed that Omar Sowunmi's ankle problems were behind his 30th minute substitution, whilst he also said that Sessi D'Almeida's withdrawal early in the second half was due to him having a groin problem, although it also enabled him to switch formations during that 52nd minute change.
