Officials for the League Two match between Forest Green Rovers and Yeovil Town have been published by the Football League. The match takes place on Saturday 16th February with a 3.00p.m. kick-off at the New Lawn. The man in charge of the fixture will be referee Ben Toner (Lancashire).
Mr Toner is in his fourth season as a Football League referee and we've had him four times. The first was the September 2015 League Two match against Crawley Town that saw us gain a 1-0 victory at the Broadfield Stadium. He had an ultra-quiet game, with zero bookings, and we can't recall too much during the match that suggested he should have intervened at any key stage.
He was at Kenilworth Road for the February 2017 EFL Trophy tie against Luton Town, that saw Yeovil knocked out by a 5-2 scoreline. As well as the seven goals, there were also four bookings spread across the two sides, although nothing we can recall anyone getting fussy about, although with it being the Checkatrade competition, arguments about the result weren't too heavy at that point anyway.
During the 2017-18 season, he took charge of our October 2017 home match against Crewe Alexandra, which saw us come out on top with a 2-0 win. We can't recall anything dramatic about that match - his one contribution was a late booking for Francois Zoko, but the 89th minute handball was a bit of a silly one.
His November 2017 meeting was a rather more dramatic one. Before matchday, he was a late replacement for Graham Salisbury, who had picked up an injury, with Toner being moved from Bloomfield Road, Blackpool due to the EFL wanting to put a Select Group 2 official in charge of that match, where their home supporters were expected to hold a demonstration. Further up the M6, Mr Toner was overseeing a horrifically one-sided contest as Carlisle ran out as 4-0 winners. Yeovil's cause wasn't helped by what happened in the 72nd minute, whilst we were 2-0 down - Jordan Green's foul saw him lucky to escape a red card, but in the aftermath of that incident, Bevis Mugabi got involved in an off the ball incident that saw the Cumbrians awarded a penalty, due to it occurring inside the penalty box, allowing Carlisle to get their third. After the game, manager Darren Way gave some fairly muted non-specific grumbles about the incident, but in the end once the video made it obvious that Mugabi had thrown an arm, there was no appeal.
Mr Toner has had some variety to his career so far - in the summer of 2014, he was selected to represent the English FA in the Dallas Cup, which during that year included youth and development teams from Fulham, Fluminense of Brazil, River Plate of Argentina and the US Under 20 National team. He hails from Darwen and is a teacher at Fleetwood High School and so presumably won't be given too many Fleetwood Town matches to look after. So far this season, he's taken charge of 27 matches, handing out 76 yellow cards and five red cards.
Mr Toner will be assisted by Ian Dudley (Nottinghamshire) and Danny Gratton (Staffordshire). The Fourth Official will be Craig Taylor (West Midlands).
