Serial clickbaiters HITC have this morning run an article connecting Yeovil Town defender Tom James with a move to Championship side Wigan Athletic. Despite the January Transfer window having closed just four days ago, they are now commencing their Summer Transfer window rumours with a claim that the defender is the subject of interest, claiming that they tried to sign him during January without success, and will now try to lure him in the summer..
They claim that the information comes from "sources close to the club" although don't make clear whether this has come from the Yeovil end or the Wigan end. The month of January was a fairly quiet one in terms of rumours, although predictably HITC did run a very generic story claiming that James was the subject of interest from "several Championship clubs", although this didn't materialise into anything of note.
This has been a long running saga, mainly through HITC, where they've written in excess of 40 articles on Tom James over the last year or so, with only West Bromwich Albion's August 2018 bid of £400,000 actually reaching the point where both clubs reached an agreement on a fee. That deal ultimately fell through and there was no sign of any concrete offers for James during January 2019.
The one thing we can be certain on, is that nothing substantial will take place until May 2019. At that point there is a slight question mark in that the contract Tom James signed in January 2018 was publicised by the club as running out in June 2019. However, more recent reports via reporter Chris Spittles and from BBC Radio Bristol's sport team believe that James is under contract until June 2020. If that is confirmed, then the club would still be able to refuse bids from any interested club.
