Former Yeovil Town defender Shaun Donnellan has found himself a new club. The 22 year old former West Bromwich Albion Academy player has agreed a contract with National League side Maidstone United until the end of the 2018-19 season. His move to Kent will have been influenced by the arrival of John Still at the Gallagher Stadium as their Head of Football. Donnellan played under Still during the 2016-17 season when he was manager at Dagenham and Redbridge.
Donnellan was one of Yeovil Town's departures during the January Transfer Window. Although he was under contract at Huish Park until the end of the 2018-19 season, that deal was cut short by mutual consent earlier this month, having made 25 appearances for the Glovers, scoring one goal. He therefore signs for Maidstone as a free agent. Still said of his arrival that his ability to capture Donnellan was based on geography:
"Donnellan came to me at Dagenham on loan from West Brom and played in our side that got into the (National League) playoffs. He's a quick, cultured defender and is very bright. He has played in League One for Walsall and Yeovil. He's a London boy and has been living away from home. Donnellan wanted to play closer to home. Other clubs in this league wanted him; I convinced him if he comes here and helps us get out of trouble there will be lots of people wanting to take him and then he has a decision to make."
